Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam of the season, kicked off on Sunday and three tennis players from the Czech Republic were supposed to be in action. Namely, Karolína Muchová, Kateřina Siniaková and Marie Bouzková. How did they do?

Muchová had a smooth start, next round won’t be so easy

Three Czech Republic representatives were present on the first day of the second Grand Slam of the Roland Garros season. First of all, the only Moravian native, Karolína Muchová, was in action.

Muchová’s opponent was French hope Carole Monnet, who is currently 249th in the WTA rankings. The favourite was therefore obvious and it was a rather pleasant draw for the Moravian tennis player.

The course of the match unfolded accordingly. Muchova managed to win the match in two sets, both of them by 6::3 and both lasted almost identical time. It took the native of Olomouc one hour and 45 minutes to win her first match of the tournament.

However, Muchová may encounter a problem in the very next round. Her opponent may be Maria Sakkari, the world number four. She still has to get past Clara Burel, which should not be a problem.

Siniakova defeated Petricova, may face US Open finalist

Just like Karolina Muchova, the East Bohemian native Katerina Siniakova also managed her match well, as she came up against Petra Marticova, whom she managed to beat once in the past.

Compared to the match in Dubai three years ago, however, Sunday’s victory was not easy. After all, the Croatian entered the Paris courts in good form. In Rome, she beat Muchova and world number five Anett Kontaveit.

Siniakova took the first set 6::4, but the second set was not easy. Martičová got the break twice and took the lead, she even went on serve at 6::5 in her favour. However, the Czech fought back and won the tie-break.

In the tie-break, Siniakova pulled the longer end of the rope. She did not let her opponent take the lead even once and dominated it 8::6.

And what happens next? Siniakova is probably not expecting anything easy. She is facing the talented world No. 17 and last year’s US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez, but she has to beat Kristina Mladenovic.

Bouzkova faces an unpleasant change of opponent

The last to go will be Maria Bouzkova, who hasn’t been playing badly this year, for example, when she reached the final in Guadalajara and beat Karolina Pliskova in Madrid. But it hasn’t been easy for her.

She was originally supposed to play Lauren Davis, but she withdrew from the match quite shortly before it was due to take place. Russian Anastasia Gasanova was the replacement for Davis.

The match is estimated to take place around 7pm.
