It is common knowledge that FC Barcelona has been in debt for a long time. This year, however, the situation has escalated, thanks to the new La Liga rules that caused the departure of Lionel Messi. Will there now be a rescue? A company from Dubai is offering the Catalans a lot of money!
FC Barcelona have reportedly received an offer of £1.2 billion to stabilise the club and write off the debt that caused significant havoc over the summer.
The Catalan giant had to part with its long-time mainstay, Lionel Messi, in the summer transfer window due to its financial woes, as well as new La Liga rules.
The club has been in a terrible state, but now there could be a revival. €1.173 billion – that’s exactly what Barcelona currently owes.
And it’s not just Messi or more departures and pay cuts. Joan Laporta also stated publicly in the summer that the club is in a dire financial situation and a major rebuild is needed to save Barcelona at all.
It has been a cruel and heartbreaking summer for the fans in particular. In fact, the bad news just kept piling up and things started to look really bleak for the club.
If Barcelona had agreed to the offer, they would have received this injection of money immediately. This means that the club would have been able to stabilise, which seemed virtually impossible at the end of the summer.
The Blaugrana management has already rejected one offer recently. This was a multi-billion-euro investment and revenue-sharing deal between La Liga and private equity firm CVC.
Essentially, the deal was to work by CVC putting €2.7 billion into the league in exchange for a 10% share of revenues and other activities. The other 90 percent was to go to the clubs. However, both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid rejected such a partnership.
The managements of both entities have commented on the subject that the deal was not sufficiently discussed with the clubs. At the same time, it is said to significantly reduce the revenue from broadcasting rights, which would deprive the league of some financial benefit for the teams.
As far as Barcelona is concerned, however, the agreement with the Dubai company should work on a completely different basis. The latter does not want to interfere in any significant way in the club’s activities and the approach is also quite different, according to the Catalan giant’s management.
And this could be exactly what the club needs to stabilise and move forward in a more sustainable way, and could return the Blaugrana to its former glory.
