Leeds United defeated Peterborough 3-0 in the FA Cup third round. Patrick Bamford scored a great goal in this match, which will probably be one of the best goals in the calendar year 2024.

Leeds United, as representatives of the second English top flight, entered the FA Cup third round match against Peterborough as a paper favourite. As a result, Daniel Farke’s charges fulfilled that role from the first half.

Ethan Ampadu opened the scoring in the 34th minute, assisted by Patrick Bamford for Leeds’ first goal. In purely statistical terms, both teams played an even game in both acts, although the home side did not send a projectile that went between the three posts for the entire first half.

In total, the visitors threatened the home goalkeeper twice, sending six shot attempts at the Peterborough goal. However, only one of them ended up in the net.

However, it didn’t take long for the visitors to reassert themselves. This time, however, the author of the first goal styled himself in a different role, that of a passer.

Twenty-three-year-old Ampadu sent a long centre, which the experienced Bamford used his chest to work straight onto his foot for a direct shot. And not only did it threaten Fynn Talley, Bamford gave the Peterborough keeper no chance!

Bamford contributes to Leeds’ clear win

Bamford contributed a goal and an assist to Leeds’ 3-0 win. In the 90th minute, Ampadu added his second goal of the game to make it 3:0. Bamford, as a substitute, scored for only the second time in the current season.

He scored the opening goal on 1 January in the 3:0 league win over Birmingham, playing 75 minutes. And now he scored for the second time in the FA Cup third round match against Peterborough.

So Leeds deservedly advanced to the next stage of the FA Cup. This team is in relatively good form in the second highest English competition, having accumulated 48 points in twenty-six games. They are currently four points behind third-placed Southampton, with another three points behind Ipswich. The Championship table is led by Leicester with 65 points.
