That Prochazka lost? We are fighters, let us figt! What is the public reaction?
The UFC has another spectacular gala behind it. The main event, however, was far from what the Czechoslovak fans wanted. Jiri Prochazka lost to Alex Pereira and there is a lot of talk about whether the fight was stopped early. What did the public say?
The UFC has another spectacular gala behind it. Jiri Prochazka lost to Alex Pereira and there is a lot of talk about whether the fight was stopped early. What did the public say?
Madison Square Garden in New York became the main venue of the MMA scene across the world on Saturday night. UFC 295 was held there, and there were eight big fights and great finishes to be seen.
For Czechoslovakian fans, the biggest event was what happened at the very end of the gala. The main event of the night featured Jiri Prochazka fighting for the light heavyweight title.
It was known that nothing easy awaited him. Alex Pereira is a tough opponent for anyone. He ended the dominance of Israel Adesanya in the middleweight division and took on Jan Blachowicz in his debut in the light heavyweight division.
The Prochazka vs. Pereira duel promised to be a spectacular show with almost 100% certainty of a KO/TKO. Any other ending to the fight was practically out of the question. And indeed it did. Unfortunately, it was the Moravian samurai who lost.
It didn’t look bad at all in the first round. Procházka landed the better shots, Pereira was more or less only better with his kicks, but BJP was obviously feeling them a lot. The Moravian looked better in the second round as well, but the moment he pushed and chased his opponent to the canvas, he cashed in twice and went down.
Although he tried to stay in the game, the referee gave him no chance to recover and stopped the fight. Procházka himself said he believed the termination was correct. But it is impossible to say that everyone had the same opinion.
Procházka was defended. What are the reactions?
Jiri Procházka said after the fight that he would come back stronger. However, many people believe the fight was stopped prematurely. He has the sympathy of long-time rival Aleksandar Rakic.
“This was a early stoppage. I feel sorry for Jiri,” he expressed on Twitter. UFC fighters such as Henry Cejudo, Merab Dvalishvili, Justin Tafa and Dominic Cruz shared similar statements afterwards.
“Bu****it early stoppage!!! Marc Goddard does it again!!! We are fighters, let us fight!!!,” wrote Merab Dvalishvili on his social media!
Top MMA journalist Ariel Helwani also stood up for the Moravian samurai: “On first impression it looked like an early finish. Even after playing the footage, it looked like an early finish. Walk was definitely hurt, but I feel he could still breathe.”
The legendary Max Holloway showed great respect for the South Moravian: ” Jiri is a special fighter. Most guys wouldn’t say what he said. Respect, warrior.”
A great deal of criticism then has to be endured by referee Marc Goddard, who according to some social media accounts is the best at ruining major fights.
