Luka Modric will forever be one of football’s greatest legends. The Ballon d’Or winner and six-time Champions League winner can still play at the highest level at almost 39 years of age, earning admiration and kind words from an Italian journalist at a press conference.

He will celebrate his 39th birthday in September, yet he will give himself at least one more season at Real Madrid. There was already talk that the last one would be his last. But Luka Modric continues to bend the laws of aging and can play at the highest level.

At the ongoing Euro, he captained Croatia in all three games from the start, but the World Cup bronze medallists did not have a good tournament. In the group of death against Spain, Italy and Albania, they earned only two points and would need a combination of three more results to advance to the eight-finals.

In the last game against Italy, Modric managed to score, making him the oldest player ever to score at the Euro. In the post-match press conference, he also earned praise from his opponent, an Italian journalist.

To advance, Croatia would need an England win over Slovenia by at least 3 goals, as well as a Turkey win over the Czech Republic and a Portugal win over Georgia. Two goalless draws in our group matches would also be enough.

Modric has just pulled off his eighth international championship in Germany, having managed to lead Croatia to silver and gold at the 2018 and 2022 European Championships. Whether he will have a chance to add anything at this Euro will have to wait and see.
