Teams with the most points in league competitions in 2023

The year 2023 is slowly coming to an end and so are the mid-season league competitions. Some teams had a good end to last season, some are doing better again in the fall. Which team has earned the most points so far this calendar year?

3. place: Napoli and Dortmund – 66 points

Napoli dug themselves a Serie A title in the spring. It had a clear win a few rounds before the end, so the last league games the players were not fully concentrated. We can only debate what role winning the title played in the minds of the players during their performance in the Champions League, from which the Italian side surprisingly crashed out in the quarter-finals.

The start of the new season was similar to the end of the last one, so unfortunately Naples could not place higher in this ranking.

Dortmund played for the title until the last minute, and had everything in their hands, but in the end Borussia couldn’t do it. However, the German side also had a great start to this season, and that just shot them up to 3rd place in this ranking.

They still haven’t lost in the Bundesliga and are only 2 points behind current leaders Leverkusen. Dortmund, together with Napoli, are one point behind Real Madrid, for example.

2. place: Atlético Madrid – 72 points

For the Madrid club, not participating in the knockout battles in the European leagues seems to have played a key role in the spring. Atlético were able to concentrate fully on La Liga and although they finished only 3rd behind the victorious Barcelona, they rarely lost, rather only sporadically. It was only one point behind second-placed Real Madrid.

Diego Simeone’s team came into this season like big water. It beat Real by a clear 3-1. In La Liga, it has notched up a single defeat and a draw. As a result, they are now in 4th place, 3 points behind their city rivals. However, it must be added that Atlético have a game in hand, so if they win, they will be tied for first place.

1. place: Barcelona and Manchester City – 74 points

Barcelona are at the top quite logically, they left no one in doubt about the league title in the spring, winning La Liga by 10 points ahead of the White Ballet. In the current season, it is losing points beyond expectations, but it still hasn’t lost in the league, although it’s not the same for various reasons. Thanks to a great spring season, it can compete with Manchester City in this ranking.

Manchester City at the top of this ranking probably surprises no one. The Premier League winner had an unusually tough time last season. Arsenal fought to the last moments. In the end, however, Pep Guardiola’s team fought back and won another league triumph.

In the new season, they are again fighting on the highest rungs, currently only one point behind the leader Tottenham. As the rounds go by, it will probably not be a surprise if they get back to the top of the league table.
