Chelsea won their Premier League third round match, beating Luton 3-0 at Stamford Bridge. The star of the match was Raheem Sterling, who scored all the goals. The Blues celebrate their first triumph of the season.
Chelsea threatened for the first time in the fourth minute, but Raheem Sterling’s shot was blocked by the defence. The experienced winger also fired three minutes later, his shot was superbly blocked by goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski.
Moments later, Ben Chilwell fired a shot, but the Blues captain missed the target with his left foot. In the 18th minute, Stamford Bridge was celebrating, a great cross was finished with a precise cross to the back post by the active Sterling.
Still, the Blues were not outright better, Luton were only brought down by the poor quality in the final stages, hence the lack of shots. The second half of the first forty-five minutes did not offer a third chance and Chelsea went into the box with a 1: 0 lead.
After the change of sides, Chilwell could have increased the lead, but alone in front of the goalkeeper, he senselessly passed to the manned Sterling. A minute later, Nicolas Jackson had an interesting shot, but Kaminski again missed.
And the Belgian goalkeeper with Polish roots continued to shine, keeping out Enzo Fernandez from an angle in the 54th minute. 12 minutes later Sterling was at it again, this time after a sprint he missed the ball well and just missed the back post.
In the 67th minute it was already working, Sterling increased the lead from his first touch on the edge of the small area, and Malo Gusto passed to him for the second time. Eight minutes later it was done, after a superb pass from Sterling, Jackson cleared the ball in a slip.
Then the game was over, with Conor Gallagher still on the scoresheet, but he didn’t add the fourth nail in Luton’s coffin.
