The arrival of Kevin Fiala as a big Swiss reinforcement is bearing fruit, which has been felt strongly by Denmark. Switzerland beat him 8:0 and the NHL star picked up three points for two goals and an assist. With the win, the Swiss secured their place in the quarter-finals of the World Championship.

A trio of stars quickly put the Swiss in the lead

Kevin Fiala, Roman Josi and Nico Hischier are among the stars of the Swiss team at this year’s World Championship and are pulling their team along. They proved that fact after just four minutes when Hischier opened the scoring.

By the end of the first period, the Swiss increased their lead after a beautiful individual action by Josi. The Nashville defenseman collected the puck in the opponent’s defensive zone, passed between the opposing players and cranked the puck to the goalie and headed between the unguarded space between the three sticks.

The scoring continued in the second period

In the second half, the Swiss needed only 39 seconds to score. Fiala took advantage of a power play after interplay between Hischier and Andres Ambühl.

Fiala scored another goal less than three minutes later, again with Hischier scoring. Switzerland led 4:0 at 23:58.

However, the Swiss scored once more before the end of the second period. Sven Senteler scored at 33:43 after a pass from Darius Simion.

The Danes could do nothing at the end and Genoni kept the net

The Swiss didn’t find a weak moment even when shorthanded, as Calvin Thurkauf showed, who escaped his opponent and increased the score to 6:0 with a backhand stick, despite the smaller number of Swiss players on the ice.

By the end of the third period, Christoph Bertschy and Tristan Scherwey also contributed to Switzerland’s 8:0 victory over Denmark. The Danes sent 17 shots at Leonardo Genoni in the game, but none of them went past his back.

The Swiss goalkeeper thus kept a clean sheet at the World Cup, which also helped the Swiss to at least temporarily take first place in Group A. In addition, Switzerland secured their place in the quarter-finals.
