Switzerland vs. Turkey: Preview and betting tips
Switzerland will face Turkey in the last round of the group stage of the European Championship for third place in the group. Even a win may not be enough for the Turks. Which of the two dark horses will win the tournament?
Switzerland will face Turkey in the last round of the group stage of the European Championship for third place in the group. Even a win may not be enough for the Turks. Which of the two dark horses will win the tournament?
Switzerland have so far failed to fulfil the potential of one of the dark horses of the tournament. In two matches, it has only earned one point from its draw with Wales and scored only one goal, while conceding four times.
Turkey are even worse off. In the opening round it lost 0:3 to Italy, in the second round it got two goals from Wales and did not score again. Even a win from the last match may not be enough for the strong Turks.
Breel Embolo has been performing well for Switzerland, scoring a goal in the first round of the group stage and impressing with his play without the ball. The Swiss game also depends on the form of two “x”. When Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri have their day, Vladimir Petkovic’s charges are unstoppable.
It’s hard to praise anyone in the Turkish camp, if anyone played decently it was Hakan Calhanoglu, the skilful all-rounder from AC Milan. Cengiz Ünder also had bright moments against Wales, but he couldn’t make a statement in goal.
The Swiss will miss the injured Sommer, while the Turks will be complete.
If the Swiss don’t win their last game and don’t advance, it wouldn’t be a surprise. After all, they have finished in the group in three of the last four championships.
Even the Turks have a negative record on their hands. If they lose, they will top the table with the most losses in the group stages.
Although form and attitude are in the Swiss’ favour, I expect the Turks not to lose.
