Portugal will be defending the top spot in their group in the Nations League on Sunday. It will face the last team in the table, the struggling Switzerland, who do not have a point. What to expect from the match and what to bet on?
Switzerland have made a terrible start to the third edition of the Nations League. After a surprising loss to the Czech Republic, as expected, they fell to Portugal and Spain and are last without a point with only one goal scored.
The Portuguese, on the other hand, are enjoying themselves at the top of the group. After an opening draw with the Spanish, they beat both the Swiss (4::0) and the Czechs (2::0) at home and lead the group with seven points. They have a two-point lead over the second-placed Spaniards.
The mainstay of the home team is Breel Embolo from Monchengladbach, author of eleven goals and six assists. The mainstays are goalkeeper Yann Sommer and midfielders Granit Xhaka from Arsenal and Xherdan Shaqiri from Chicago.
The stars of the Portuguese team need no introduction. Cristiano Ronaldo has been the goal-scoring drag on a struggling Manchester United, while Bernardo Silva and Joao Cancelo are the main architects of Manchester City’s league title.
Switzerland have struggled in attack, scoring just three goals in their last five games while conceding ten.
The Portuguese, on the other hand, are firing, thanks mainly to Ronaldo, scoring more than once in four of their last five games.
Given Portugal’s form and poor performances and the Swiss approach to the competition, I think Ronaldo and co will win.
