Twenty-one-year-old Czech tennis player Jiří Lehečka has already received a very sweet reward for the whole tennis season. Together with four other world-class tennis players, he has been nominated for the award for the best newcomer on the ATP circuit!

Twenty-one-year-old Czech tennis player Jiří Lehečka has already received a very sweet reward for the whole tennis season. Together with four other world-class tennis players, he has been nominated for the award for the best newcomer on the ATP circuit!

The native of Mladá Boleslav has completed his entire tennis season and can now enjoy a well-deserved rest. Moreover, knowing that he might win the award for the best rookie of the season on the ATP circuit.

Lehečka has fulfilled the basic condition to be included in the nomination, which consists of five names. In addition to the Czech tennis player, there are Ben Shelton, Chun-Hsin Tseng, Holger Rune and Jack Draper.

That condition is to break into the top 100 players on the ATP circuit, which Lehecek has managed to do. The Czech representative has risen from 141st to 80th position, and in August this year he was even the fifty-ninth best tennis player in the world.

Lehečka went on to win the trophy at the Challenger in Liberec this year, he even played in the final of the Under-21 Champions Tournament and reached the final of the indoor pentathlon in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Rune the favourite, Draper the British tennis hope

The main favourite to win the Rookie of the Year award, however, is young Danish tennis player Holger Rune. The 19-year-old native of Gentofte is currently the 11th player in the ATP rankings, having triumphed at the Masters in Paris and the ATP tournaments in Munich and Stockholm this year.

At forty-second overall is twenty-two-year-old British player Jack Draper, who has achieved four ATP Challenger Tour championships this year.

Lehečka of the Czech Republic is currently ranked 80th in the world, while the aforementioned Chun-Hsin Tseng of Taiwan is six places lower.

He won the challengers in Bengaluru and Murcia, the last player in terms of position in the ATP ranking is the American Shelton, who won three times in three November challengers in the USA.
