The Swedish cross-country skier had an unpleasant experience in the first World Cup race in Ruka, Finland. On Sunday, the 20 km mass start race was pretty “frigid”. The thermometer read 19 degrees below zero.
The permissible limit for the Cross-Country World Cup is minus 20°C, which is only one degree lower than the temperature in Ruka.
“It hurts like crazy, it’s terrible,” Calle Halfvarsson screamed in pain after reaching the finish line. He pointed to his private parts and it was clear to everyone how much he must have suffered.
The thirty-four year old Swedish rider has been racing in the World Cup since 2009 and his best career result is third place in the Tour de Ski. In 2013, he was also part of the Swedish relay team that finished second at the World Championships in Val di Fiemme, Italy.
In the first World Cup race of the new season, Halfvarsson finished eighteenth, losing 42.3 seconds to the winning Jan Thomas Jenssen of Norway over the 20-kilometre course.
It was the first time that Calle Halfvarsson suffered a similar injury. In his thin racing suit, his sensitive parts had frozen several years ago.
“Luckily I’m going to have a second child soon, because it would be a problem in the future if I continued like this,” Halfvarsson smiled after warming his frozen penis in the warmth of his tent.
Even silver Michal Novák was freezing
Czech Michal Novák will remember the same race only in a good way. In the 20 km mass start race he scored a historic success.
He finished second in Finland, when he fought with Norwegian Jenssen on the final hill for the first place. The Czech skier was also very cold.
“At the beginning the pace was very comfortable, at least for me. I tried to save my strength in the group and enjoy the skiing, even though it was crazy cold. Especially in the downhill I was freezing, and even now I’m frozen,” Michal Novák confided in an interview on the association’s website.
