A day later than the Czech national team, the Swedish national team published its nomination. The names are respectable, there are no missing mainstays and Sweden will surely be the favourite in this duel.
While the Czech national team will be missing key players in the important match, the Swedish team is practically complete. The only newcomer is Manchester United’s offensive midfielder Anthony Elanga.
AC Milan’s star striker Zlatan Ibrahimović is also in the 25-man squad of coach Janne Andersson, but he cannot play against the Czech Republic due to a card penalty and will be available for the match against Poland.
However, Ibrahimovic’s absence will be a problem for the Swedes. The coach has a lot to choose from on offense. Dejan Kulusevski, who left Juventus for Tottenham during the winter break, is in great form.
Nineteen-year-old Anthony Elanga, who has worked his way into the starting line-up of Manchester United and is already scoring important goals for the top club, has also made a good case for a place in the team.
“We’ve been watching Anthony’s performances closely and he has impressed us in games for the club and the U21s. He is a fast player, good in the end,” coach Andersson told the union’s website.
There are four players from the German Bundesliga on the roster. Among them are eight-goal striker Branimir Hrgota from Fürth and five-goal midfielder Emil Forsberg from RB Leipzig.
A total of five players also play in the prestigious Premier League. In addition to the aforementioned Kulusevski and Elanga, there is also, for example, Manchester United’s stopper Victor Lindelöf.
Coach Andersson also commented on the Czech national team. “TheCzech Republic is a well-organised, physical and good football team. Last summer they reached the quarter-finals of the European Championship after a win against the Netherlands.
If you look at the addresses of the players’ clubs, there are many players in Europe who play at a high level. It’s going to be a big fight and we will do everything we can to win the game.”
The barrage match will be played on the outskirts of Stockholm (Solna) on March 24 at the Friends Arena. The winner of the duel will then play the final against Poland. The loser will play a friendly against Wales or Austria.
