The Ukrainians will play their first ever knockout stage match at the Euro on Tuesday, facing Sweden. They will be slight underdogs, yet they definitely have a chance to look in the top eight.
Sweden made it through the group unexpectedly smoothly. They were already assured of qualification after the second round of play, yet they didn’t miss out on the match against the Poles and advanced from first place. It scored seven points with wins over the Poles and Slovaks and a draw with the Spaniards.
It was Ukraine who advanced thanks to the incompetence of the other selections. In the group, it won only three points for a win over Macedonia and only a high defeat of Slovakia by Spain gave it the certainty of promotion from third place.
Sweden is dependent on goals from midfielder Emil Forsberg, who scored three of its four goals. Youngster Aleksandr Isak, stopper Victor Lindelof and goalkeeper Robin Olsen have also performed well.
Ukraine relies on two goal scorers, Andriy Yarmolenko and Roman Yaremchuk have scored two goals each and are the main building blocks of the team. Ruslan Malinovskiy and Oleksandar Zinchenko are also playing well.
The Swedes will be complete, the Ukrainians will be without the injured Zubkov.
Sweden not only boasts a good defensive record at the Euro, but in the long term, they have only scored three times in their last eight games.
A lot of goals are falling in Ukraine’s games, with both teams scoring in six of the last nine.
Given that the Swedes have scored three of their four goals in the tournament in the second half, I think the score will be tied at half-time
