On Thursday, the Czech national team will face the Swedish team in the barrier for the World Championship in Qatar. The Swedes have a very strong team led by players from the Premier League, La Liga and Bundesliga. However, coach Janne Andersson also points to the strength of the Czech team.
The match between the Czech Republic and Sweden will decide which team will face Poland for a ticket to the World Cup in Qatar. Thursday’s game at the Friends Arena in Stockholm is fast approaching and the two teams will be putting the finishing touches to their preparations for their opponents.
Among the biggest stars in the Swedish squad are Victor Lindelöf of Manchester United, Alexander Isak of Real Sociedad, Dejan Kulusevski of Tottenham Hotspur and Emil Forsberg of Leipzig.
But the biggest name is undoubtedly Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is on the list but cannot play against the Czech Republic because of a penalty. However, even if the Swedes advance, he will not appear in the starting line-up against Poland.
“He has been battling some injuries, but he is back. I don’t think of him as a 90-minute starter at all, but it was very clear in our conversations that Zlatan wants to be part of this team. With his top skills on the pitch and leadership qualities off the pitch, he will help a lot of teams,” coach Andersson said in an interview with the Swedish Football Association.
At this summer’s Euro, Sweden crashed out in the eighth round against Ukraine after losing in extra time. They finished second behind Spain in their qualifying group. Although the Czech team has lost a few mainstays, Sweden’s coach is sure that it will be a big fight.
“The Czech Republic is a well-organised, physical and very good football team. Just last summer they reached the quarter-finals of the European Championship after a win against the Netherlands. If you look at the addresses of the players’ clubs, they have many footballers in Europe who play at a high level. It will be a big fight and we will do everything we can to win the game,” says Andersson combatively.
