Mohamed Salah has one year left on his contract at Liverpool. A new contract is not in the offing at the Anfield Road offices just yet, and there are some very interesting reports. In fact, the Egyptian striker could be moving within the Premier League.

He has become a symbol of Liverpool’s rise. Salah has shot the Reds to the league title, the Champions League trophy and two more finals. He has netted over 20 goals in the Premier League four times in five seasons, with only 19 goals in the 2019/20 season.

He has become an idol for Liverpool fans, but now that association could be coming to an end. Salah is out of contract at the end of next season and could leave for free in a year’s time. According to The Athletic, Salah will indeed leave Anfield Road unless he receives a significantly improved contract offer.

The Egyptian himself has stated that he will continue at Liverpool next season and will not transfer anywhere. But from next season onwards, there could be a big shock.

According to The Athletic, he prefers to stay in the Premier League and not go abroad. Of course, he wouldn’t go down, so he would have to sign for one of the Reds’ rivals.

Just imagine Salah going to Manchester City for free. That would be one of the most controversial transfers in Premier League history.

According to a source from Salah’s background, the 29-year-old has been offered a contract extension with a 15% pay rise. However, this does not seem enough for Salah and he feels undervalued for his performances. In fact, this season he has been the Premier League’s top scorer and top passer.

Instead, Salah is demanding a salary that would make him the sixth highest paid footballer in the world. He would reportedly be willing to sign a two-year contract.

Liverpool will already lose Sadio Mané this way, who will move, probably to Bayern Munich, in the summer. The latter was also reportedly unhappy with his wages, as he was only the 13th highest paid player in the team.

While the Reds don’t want to destroy their wage structure and rush into a mad race, losing two of their best players for virtually free, plus seeing Salah play for a Premier League rival, would be very cruel.
