Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City manager, was coaching his 200th Premier League game. His charges did not please him at all. In fact, in the 6th minute, Wilfried Zaha scored the away goal. The outsider surprisingly went into the lead. It was Zaha’s 50th goal in the Premier League.
The same player then forced a foul on Aymeric Laporte, who received a red card after the incident. Laporte was the last player and had to leave the field in the 41st minute after illegally stopping a loose Zaha.
Wilfried Zaha continued to make Manchester City players uncomfortable. At the end of the first half, there was a big scramble, which Zaha was a part of. The referee had to push the players away.
Pep Guardiola’s charges started the second half actively. In the 60th minute, they equalised. The goal was scored by Gabriel Jesus. The goal was disallowed for offside.
Crystal Palace defended well throughout the game. The tactic was to rely on counter-attacks. One such attack came late in the game. Conor Gallagher was on hand for the final phase to make it 2-0.
The visiting team, led by Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira, had a fantastic game against the reigning Premier League champions. On the other hand, Manchester City under Guardiola lost important points in the fight for first place.
The Citizens are in third place with 20 points after the wobble. They are two points behind second-placed Liverpool. They are five points behind leaders Chelsea. Crystal Palace have managed to take full points after four draws in a row. It was against an opponent you almost never could have expected. They are in 13th place with twelve points.
Crystal Palace play their next game against Wolves. Manchester City will try to right the ship before the national break against Manchester United.
