Recently, Pelé was admitted to the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo for routine tests, which he was initially unable to undergo due to coronavirus-related restrictions.
Through these tests, doctors found a tumor in the 80-year-old legend’s colon. Specifically, it was a tumor in the main part of the colon, which absorbs water and electrolytes from food left undigested.
Pelé was thus forced to undergo surgery to remove it. This was successful, and he has finally left the intensive care unit and is feeling much better.
“Friends, this is a message for each and every one of you. Don’t think for a minute that I haven’t read the thousands of love messages I’ve received here,” Pelé shared on his Instagram.
“Thank you so much to everyone who took even one minute of their day to send positive energy. Love, love and love! I’ve already left the ICU and I’m in my room,” he added.
Earlier this week, his daughter Kely Nascimento posted on social media that the procedure was successful and that Pelé is not in any pain after the surgery. “He is strong and stubborn, he has full support and brilliant care in the hospital. With all the love, energy and light he sends out into the world, he will make it,” she added.
So let’s wish the three-time world champion and the best Brazilian shooter of all time a speedy and 100% recovery.
