In the Wimbledon finals, two generations were competing: 36-year-old Novak Djokovic and 20-year-old Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard wanted to return the defeat from the semi-finals of Roland Garros to his rival, which he did perfectly and dominated Wimbledon.
It’s been just 37 days since these two rivals last faced each other. Carlos Alcaraz is one of the favourites for the French Open, not only because of the clay court, which is popular for Spaniards, but also because of his amazing form.
However, he was unlucky in the match when he got injured in the second set and could not play at 100%. Still, he didn’t give up and lost 1: 3 in sets.
After just a month and a few days, Alcaraz had a chance for a rematch. The world number one made it all the way to the Wimbledon finals, where he met the world number two and the most successful tennis player in history, Novak Djokovic.
But his first set was a total bust. The native of Murcia lost his first two serves and eventually lost the first set by a clear margin of 1-6.
In the second set, on the other hand, he got off to a great start, took Djokovic’s serve and went up 2-0 on games. However, he immediately lost his serve and the Serbian tennis player leveled at 2: 2. The set eventually went to a tiebreak, where Djokovic unexpectedly failed and after his unforced errors Alcaraz leveled at 1-1 on sets.
The Spaniard continued his euphoria and took Djokovic’s serve right at the start of the third set. He continued to ride the wave throughout the third set, winning 6-1.
But Djokovic came back in the third set and won 6-3. The Serbian tennis player went into the last five with a slightly better feeling.
In the fifth set, both players held their serve, but then Alcaraz attacked and broke his teammate. He eventually brought the set to a victorious end and won his second career Grand Slam.
