The Bundesliga title has been decided for some time now, but the fight to stay in the league brought some exciting matches in the last round. Stuttgart’s late goal meant Hertha Berlin dropped into the Bundesliga barrage after Youssoufa Moukoko had fired Dortmund to victory.

With Dortmund no longer playing for anything, the home fans could at least say goodbye to several players. Apart from Norwegian star Haaland, who will defend the colours of Manchester City, Axel Witsel and Roman Bürki played their last game in BVB colours. Hertha, on the other hand, were still fighting for salvation in Germany’s top competition in the last round.

In a game in which Hertha needed to get at least a point to avoid a possible relegation barrier, they took the lead thanks to a penalty from Ishak Belfodil. Dan-Axel Zagadou fouled Belfodil before the assistant referee raised the flag for offside. However, after reviewing the video, referee Stieler changed his mind and confirmed the penalty.

In the second half, young Bynoe-Gittens came on and brought the game to life. And after a long conquest of Hertha’s sturdy defence, they finally managed to break the tie after VAR called another penalty.

Raphael Guerreiro fired a dangerous straight shot on the edge of the penalty area into the Hertha wall, which hit the hand of Marvin Plattenhardt. Haaland stood in front of the yellow wall and fired a fierce shot into the middle of the goal in his last appearance for the club.

Five minutes from the end, a great cross from Bellingham found Moukok, who made the decisive move just a minute after coming on.

Hertha therefore failed to win the crucial game, which combined with Stuttgart’s late goal meant Hertha went into the relegation barrier.

There they will play the team that will be in third position in the second Bundesliga after tomorrow’s last round.
