Chelsea failed to win their match at Nottingham Forest. She can be happy for the 1-1 draw, because the opponent had more chances and shot once into the crossbar. Raheem Sterling and Serge Aurier scored.
Chelsea threatened for the first time in the second minute, but Mason Mount shot over after a pass from Kalidou Koulibaly. At the other end, Brennan Johnson fired over after a break, but Kepa Arrizabalaga made a double tackle.
Five minutes later, the visitors went ahead. Willy Boly’s own goal was saved by the crossbar, Raheem Sterling already had an easy job from the rebound.
The picture of the game was unchanged, with Chelsea playing with the ball and Nottingham waiting for quick breaks. But the home side were plagued by inaccuracies in their passing. In the 40th minute, César Azpilicueta shot from outside the box, the Reds defence knocked the attempt away for a corner.
After the change of sides, the home side started actively, but Taiwo Awoniyi’s 47th minute shot was easily caught by Kepa. Three minutes later, Johnson was selfish and wrong, firing from an angle instead of passing in front of an empty net.
A good passage of play culminated in the 54th minute with Morgan Gibbs White’s shot into the crossbar. Ten minutes later it was level. In a messy situation, Serge Aurier neatly worked the ball in the whitewash and from a volley he shot through Kepa’s legs.
In the end, Chelsea took the initiative, but there was a good feeling in Forest’s camp. After the 1-1 draw, Chelsea jumped up to eighth place, Nottingham are 18th, just a point behind West Ham.
