Stanek, this is our Dominik Hasek from Nagano! How does Plzeň captain evaluate the match against Karabakh?
Viktoria Plzeň played their last Champions League preliminary round match on the ground of Karabakh, where they took away a very promising result for the rematch. However, the West Bohemians were significantly supported by goalkeeper Jindřich Staněk, who was praised by captain Lukáš Hejda in an interview. How did he evaluate the match against Karabakh?

The first half was more attractive to the eye of the spectator and especially from the point of view of a Viktoria Plzeň fan. In it, the duel between Karabakh and Plzeň brought a large number of chances on both sides, while the guests were very active in football.
However, in the second half, the Westerners significantly dropped their offensive qualities and the home side created solid scoring opportunities.
Pilsen’s goalkeeper Stanek, who made several phenomenal saves in Azerbaijan, was very supportive.
“I’ve already got used to his performance. What goes through the defence, he always catches. He’s like our Dominik Hasek from Nagano,” Hejda said in an interview with the club’s website.
“We wanted to make Karabakh a little more angry up front. We had some chances in the first half, but in the second half we didn’t create anything. However, we defended responsibly and we’ll take the 0:0 result,” added the Pilsen captain.
Hejda will miss the next home game against Karabakh due to a penalty.
“Of course I am sorry that I won’t be there for the rematch, but I believe that the boys will make it,” concluded Hejda. The question is who will fill in for him in the rematch of the last Champions League preliminary round. In any case, it is very likely that the experienced Luděk Pernica will have his place in the line-up.
However, we will have to wait and see what line-up coach Michal Bílek will choose for the rematch. Plzeň will play against Karabakh on Tuesday, August 23, and the players can look forward to a sold-out Doosan Arena.
