Monday’s European Football Championship programme was kicked off by the Romania vs Ukraine duel. On paper, the favourites were the Ukrainians, who have several well-known stars in their squad.
But it was the opponent from Romania who dictated the pace of the game. After less than half an hour Nicolae Stanciu scored beautifully and in the second half Razvan Marin and Denis Dragus followed him.
Romania was able to celebrate a 3-0 win, which also brought them much closer to qualifying from the group. Thanks to the current model, it is possible to advance from third place, so every goal counts.
“I know myself and I know my teammates, so I know that we will not celebrate after this victory. Now we will just focus on Belgium,” said Stanciuafter the game.
No one can take away the goal and the joy he felt. At the press conference he mentioned that it was the goal of his career. Not quite the most beautiful one, but definitely the one with the sweetest ending.
“It was the goal of my career. This jersey means everything to me. To score at the EURO and win in the way we did is just incredible,” he added.
Romania was also supported by a huge number of fans, the stadium was roaring. “The support was unique, we have never felt anything like that before. My siblings, my father and my wife had tears in their eyes.
I would like to thank them all and I hope we made them happy today. We have to thank everyone and I hope they celebrate. What wedid today was simply sensational,” said the Romanian, who has played for both Slavia and Sparta.
