All four teams, Tottenham, Sporting Lisbon, Frankfurt and Marseille, will be fighting for promotion in the last round of the Champions League group stage. What to expect from Sporting Lisbon vs Frankfurt and what to bet on?
Sporting had a long lead over Tottenham a week ago, but nearly scored again at the end to make it 1: 2. They are second in the table, a point behind first-placed Tottenham and a score and a better mutual match ahead of Frankfurt.
Frankfurt struggled to keep their hopes alive last week. He managed to beat Marseille at home and leapfrogged them in the table. They need to win to advance, while at the same time they need to watch their backs as Marseille are only one point behind.
The mainstay of the home side is winger Pedro Gonçalves, the Portuguese international has already scored six times and assisted five. Young English speedster Marcus Edwards has scored five goals and assisted five.
On the away side, Daichi Kamada is enjoying the season of his life, the Japanese forward has netted eleven goals and assisted on three. Fellow offensive lineman Randal Kolo Muani is the master of the assists, with ten to his credit, plus five goals.
Sporting rely on a solid defence, scoring more than once in only one of their last five games, against Marseille.
Moreover, Frankfurt are not doing well away from home, losing two of their last four games away from home. Both times they scored three times.
Given the form of Sporting’s defence and home strength, I think Sporting will win.
