There is a month and a half left before Kylian Mbappé becomes a free agent. From PSG, which he led to the league title this season, he is headed to Real Madrid. But opinions differ on that.
Mbappé wanted to leave for Madrid already last summer, the royal club offered over 200 million euros. But PSG refused, as they wanted to conquer the Champions League with Mbappé. However, they failed in the eighth round, where else but at Real Madrid.
The French footballer’s contract expires after this season and he is yet to sign a new one. He has been silent about his future so far, the media only lives on information from his close circle.
It has been practically clear for a long time that Mbappé will leave for Real Madrid. All the world’s media were in agreement, which is why there was a big shock on Thursday evening when French newspaper Le Parisien came out with the information that Mbappé had agreed a contract extension with PSG.
Le Parisien is a newspaper very close to PSG and regularly has very accurate information about the French champion. However, the whole event ended up seeming like creating some kind of pressure on Mbappé, as the information was not based on the truth.
The player’s own mother quickly came forward to deny Mbappé’s stay. Fayza Lamari, in an interview with Maria Cortegana of the daily MARCA, said that the news about Mbappé staying at PSG was false and that Real Madrid remained the player’s first choice.
That the information about Mbappe staying in Paris is false was subsequently confirmed by renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano. And one of France’s elite newspapers, L’Equipe, has joined in.
Rather, it looks like PSG are desperate to keep Mbappé at all costs, and the Le Parisien ploy was a kind of manoeuvre to help keep the 23-year-old gem under the Eiffel Tower.
