Three days after the important opening game against Sparta in Prague, Viking had a league game against Vålerenga, a team from the capital of Norway. The match did not go well for them, they fell 2::4, but with a changed line-up.
Six players who played in the starting lineup in Prague were used for the away game against Vålerenga. Twenty-one year old Icelandic Patrik Gunnarsson did not appear in goal this time, the experienced Arild Ostbo got the opportunity.
Brekalo, de Lanlay, Karlsbakk and Trpic were also missing, but the last three jumped into the match during the game. But the coach’s step of saving a few players didn’t work out too well.
Although Viking took the lead in the 11th minute, they scored three times before the end of the half. In the 82nd minute, they reduced it to 2-3, but the home team struck again in the final minute to celebrate the victory.
This means only one thing, Viking dropped behind Bodo/Glimt to fourth place, but they have played two more games than their opponents.
Thus, one can expect the competition’s lead or drop to follow in the coming weeks. Especially if the Norwegian team advances to the next round.
However, the probability dropped a little bit again after this game, the performance of the Stavanger players was poor and Vålerenga had no problem overcoming their defence.
