Sparta Prague will enter the spring phase of the cup season on Sunday. In a busy schedule, they will welcome Partizan Belgrade, the leading team in the Serbian league, to Letná. What to expect from the match and what to bet on?
Sparta has had an embarrassing start to the spring. They drew twice in the league (0:0 with Budějovice and 2:2 with Plzeň), but on the other hand they knocked Slavia out of the MOL Cup (2:0). Letná’s team made the play-offs from the third place in the Europa League group with Lyon, Rangers and Brondby.
Partizan has only one sharp game under its belt, winning 2: 0 at Radnički Niš and securing the first place in the table. They have a six-point lead over second-placed Crvena zvezda. The Serbian vice-champion made the play-offs from the second place in the group with Gent, Flora Tallinn and Anorthosis.
Adam Hložek is having another successful season, the greatest Czech talent of the moment has scored seven goals and assisted twelve in all competitions. Jakub Pešek, a summer signing from Slovan Liberec, is also doing well (8+8).
The star of the visitors is thirty-year-old Cape Verdean forward Ricardo Gomes, who has scored twenty-three goals and assisted eight. The experienced Israeli midfielder Bibras Natcho (among others with 84 starts for the national team) scored seven goals and assisted six times.
If Sparta can rely on anything, it’s offense. It has scored more than one goal in four of its last five games, including against Plzeň and Slavia.
Partizan will definitely not go to Prague for a draw, having won their last four competitive away games, and with a great 9:0 record.
Considering the better position in the league table and therefore less pressure on the players in the Partizan camp, I think the visitors will not lose. Moreover, it is possible that Sparta’s mainstay Ladislav Krejci Jr. will miss the game due to injury.
