Sparta have a Champions League qualifying match on Tuesday. It will welcome Monaco, a big football brand in recent years. Can Vrbov’s team cope with this rival?
Just like last year, Sparta is having a great start to the season. With a score of 8:2, it leads the Fortuna League, is 100 percent and knocked out Rapid Vienna in the second round of the Champions League (3:2 on aggregate).
Monaco will not open the league season until next weekend, so the game at Sparta will be essentially the first game of the season. However, in preparation, the Princes have faced clubs like Real Sociedad (1::2) and Wolfsburg (2::1).
Ladislav Krejci Jr. has helped Sparta a lot in the first four games offensively, with the talented all-rounder scoring two goals. Jakub Pesek is also in excellent form, the national winger scored a nice goal both at home against Rapid and in Liberec.
Monaco’s biggest weapon is France international Wissam Ben Yedder, but the squad also includes La Liga and Premier League seasoned Cesc Fabregas and defensive midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni.
Sparta will miss Casper Höjer, Monaco will have to do without Marcelino and Bongiovanni.
Sparta have already scored eleven goals in the new season, so on average they score 2.75 goals per ninety minutes.
Monaco, on the other hand, had a good defensive performance in the preparation, only Sociedad scored more than one goal.
Despite the good atmosphere in Sparta’s squad, I think Monaco will win the game and score at least two goals.
