Sparta entered the match actively and seemed to surprise the visiting players. In the 21st Filip Panák took a shot, but it missed the net. A minute later Gelson Martins shot, but it was well over. In the 23rd minute Adam Hložek had a great chance, but his header missed.
In the 41st minute Monaco took the lead out of nowhere, Aurélien Tchouaméni scored from a corner kick. Immediately afterwards, Youssouf Fofana could have increased the lead, but his attempt was cleared by a Sparta defender.
Sparta went into the cabins with a cruel 0:1 scoreline. Pavel Vrba sent Lukáš Julius into the second half in place of David Moberg Karlson.
However, Sparta did not manage to answer, on the contrary, they scored for the second time. Florin Nita was fouled twice by German international Kevin Volland. In the 69th minute Jakub Pesek fired from distance, but did not surprise the visitors’ goalkeeper.
