Sparta is still looking for its bottom! Players can’t take the pressure for long, club coefficient is in the trap
Sparta Prague proved once again that it is still searching for its bottom. In Stavanger they were the better team in the first half, but after that their performance deteriorated rapidly and the match was crowned by a huge mistake by David Hancock, which sent their opponent to the third round.
Sparta Prague proved once again that it is still searching for its bottom. In Stavanger, they were the better team in the first half, but after that their performance deteriorated rapidly and the match was crowned by a huge blunder by David Hancock, which sent their opponent to the third round.
Being a Sparta fan is a punishment. This long-standing rule was again shown in its light when the team from Letná dropped out in the second preliminary round to Norwegian Viking.
How was the performance? In sum, absolutely tragic. Yes, we could see some promising moments in the first half, but the very poor performance of the wings suggested that another embarrassment could be on the way.
And so it was. The second half was unwatchable and full of stress from a Sparta supporter’s point of view. Everyone remembers the pre-season crashes of recent years.
Hardly any chances and Viking’s mounting pressure foreshadowed the disaster that was to come in the setup. Dominik Holec didn’t let the ball go to the back of the net, but tried to play it in.
He sent the ball to Dávid Hanck under pressure and he produced a miss, which Sparta fans from the European Cup are unfortunately quite used to. Viking converted the chance and all hope was lost.
The job was done and now the Spartans can see the jeers of their rivals from all sides, who are enjoying another embarrassment to the full. And what will follow now?
That’s the big question, but the arrival of Jakub Jankt is at least slightly away. Sparta will only focus on the league, but everyone knows that this is a huge problem.
Especially for the next few seasons. The club coefficient is gone, and due to the low national one, Sparta will be digging through the preliminary rounds quite possibly as unseeded, so the next embarrassment will be even closer.
