Sparta are preparing for the third Champions League preliminary round, in which they will challenge AS Monaco. The first match is tomorrow, on Tuesday at 7 pm at Letná in Prague.

The Croatian coach Niko Kovač, who is currently coaching the team from the French Ligue 1, was answering journalists at the press conference.

How do they feel about the opening match? “I think we are well prepared. The team is together, which is important for us. The players know what to do and how to do it. The start of the season is tough. We don’t know exactly where we stand because it will be our first competitive game,” he said.

“On the other hand, Sparta have already played competitive matches in the league, even in the Champions League, which is an advantage for them. Our goal is clear, we have to beat Sparta if we want to play the LM group. We will do everything to achieve that,” he added.

Sparta have completed the second preliminary round, in which they lost to Rapid 1:2 in the opening game, but won 2:0 in the second leg to advance. In the league, they won against both Olomouc and Liberec.

“It won’t be easy to advance, although it may look like it when the French team is playing against the Czech one. But it won’t be easy, Sparta has its own quality,” Kovač concluded.
