He played dozens of matches in European Cups for Sparta, but he watched Tuesday’s match with Monaco only from the iSport studio as a B-team player. What did Lukáš Vácha have to say about his teammates’ performance against Monaco?
Sparta were equal to Monaco in the first half, they were even more active in the beginning and if Adam Hložek had taken his big chance, the match could have been completely different. But the talented striker missed with his header.
“His chance was the turning point of the first half, Sparta could have taken the lead. Adam knows how to score goals, but now he still needs one at the absolute top level,” said Lukáš Vácha in the iSport studio.
The match was broken by the first goal, which fell moments before half-time. Aurélien Tchouaméni ran to celebrate his goal in front of the Sparta fans and according to some Letenske fans shouted “F*ck off”, whereupon the Letenské boiler reacted with boos. The young midfielder interpreted this as racism.
“Sparta has been fighting racism for a long time, it doesn’t belong in the stadium,” Vácha said.
In the second half, Monaco was already guarding the result with experience. At the same time, Sparta did not look like they had the strength to respond.
The absence of Ladislav Krejci Jr. was noticeable, Lukáš Juliš didn’t get into the rhythm after his arrival on the pitch, and only Adam Karabec revived the game of last year’s runner-up.
“The second goal definitely knocked Sparta out. Monaco showed great quality, they made the most of the minimum. In the second half, they defended responsibly and guarded the result. It had a compact defence, it showed that third in the French league did not end just like that,” the former national player evaluated the match.
