The MOL Cup quarter-final offered a derby between Slavia and Sparta. The visiting team from Letná showed a much improved game compared to the last league match and deservedly advanced to the semi-finals after winning 2:0.

Slavia entered the quarter-final as favourites, thanks to the combined line-up of Sparta, which included Heča, Vitík, Karabec, Minčevo and Suchomel, who made a really interesting debut for the A-team.

And he was a big topic right from the start. In the sixth minute he received a yellow card for an elbow to the head of Baha, but the referee whistled, Suchomel played the ball with his head and did nothing to Baha.

But from then on Slavia had a big advantage, as the young player often risked sending off. In the tenth minute, however, the outrage of the Spartan fans turned into euphoria.

The long-unloved short corner worked this time, after which Sacek sent a shot into the Slavia whitewash, where it bounced off Bach to Ladislav Krejci Jr., who shot into the uncovered goal.

Slavia became nervous and in the 26th minute were already two goals down. After a mistake in the midfield, Pešek took the ball and found a sprinting Wiesner, who returned the ball and the former Liberec winger, with the help of luck, got the ball behind goalkeeper Mandouse.

At the end of the half, Minchev could have sent Sparta into a three-goal lead, but his solo effort was saved by Mandous on the edge of the box, keeping their hopes of advancing to the second half alive.

Suchomel didn’t come on, the coach didn’t want to risk him being sent off, so he brought on Panak. Both teams continued their combative play, with Slavia being more active, but still no clear-cut opportunities came.

In the 67th minute, Ousou made another big mistake, a lone Haraslín rushed at Mandouse, but on the edge of the box he shot high over the bar.

The game continued to be combative, with Sparta playing their own game and not allowing Slavia any scoring opportunities. After one of the kicks, Pešek got in a break, but even he couldn’t aim more accurately with his weaker left foot.

In the 85th minute, Slavia went down to ten, after the second yellow card Taras Kacharaba had to leave the field and Slavia’s chances of advancing became even slimmer.

Sparta, however, did not score until the end of the match and could celebrate, after a good performance they advanced to the semi-finals and became the favourites to win the cup.
