Spain’s coach surprised! Taking a page from the Copa América tournament, he would cancel extra time at some stage in the EURA
Spain will face France in the semi-finals of the European Championship tonight, and it is quite possible that we will see another extra time. There is no shortage of just those in the knockout phase of the tournament and coach Luis de la Fuente is of the opinion that extra time could be cancelled at some stage of the tournament. Why?
Spain will face France in the semi-finals of the European Championship tonight, and it is quite possible that we will see another extra time. There is no shortage of just those in the knockout phase of the tournament and coach Luis de la Fuente is of the opinion that extra time could be cancelled at some stage of the tournament. Why?
- The EURO has too many overtimes
- Players are then tired in the other games
- Spain’s coach would not be against their cancellation
The European Championship is coming to an end and there are only three duels left on the schedule. First we have the semi-finals in the form of Spain versus France and England versus the Netherlands.
However, judging by the experience of the previous matches, it is possible that we will not see any great spectacle. After all, in the last four matches, only one of them has really entertained the spectators.
Moreover, three of the four matches went into extra time. And it’s hard to say that we’ll see any good football in them. The players are getting tired of it, and England have played it twice already.
That is why there are some opinions that the extra time could be abolished at the next tournament. Not completely, but at some stage. Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has the same opinion.
“I honestly wouldn’t mind if we got rid of it at certain stages of the tournament,” he said at a press conference ahead of the pivotal match against France.
“It could help. Not in the semi-finals or the final, but before. It would be better to watch the football. The players would be fresher going into the most exciting phase of the tournament,” he added.
Part of the reason for this statement is that the Copa América tournament has cancelled extra time and fans will eventually see it in the final. The players already have a busy schedule and maybe they would be up for it.
