Spain coach Luis de la Fuente: We can all dream, but we have to keep our feet on the ground. We certainly have room for improvement
Spain was assured of advancing from first place and coach Luis de la Fuente sent players to the Albania game who had not been given much space. They showed themselves in a great light and the coach was delighted. Spain are the favourites for the tournament, but the coach prefers to mention that they need to keep their heads down.

If we were to look for the best performing team at the current stage of the European Championships, without a doubt we would have to name Spain. They have shone so far and have made it through the group stage without losing a flower.
The Spaniards beat the Croatians 3: 0 in the opener, then the Italians 1: 0 and, with a changed line-up, Albania 1: 0. So they didn’t score in the whole time and although the goal difference in the last matches is not ideal, the performance was almost there.
Spain are clear favourites to triumph in the EURA, but they need to win a few more games to do so. However, the fans’ enthusiasm is rather tamed by coach Luis de la Fuente, who realises that just one mistake and it’s over.
“We can all dream, but we have to keep our feet on the ground. The fact that we are considered favourites does not guarantee anything. We appreciate the fact that people appreciate our work and that they recognise the talent of this generation. Because of that, they look at us as a good team,” Fuente said at a press conference.
“It is extremely difficult to win all three group games and to keep zero in them. But we must not get carried away. We know how things work in Spain: One day you’re on top and the next you mean nothing,” he added.
Spain must now wait for their opponents, whom they will play on Sunday at 9pm. “We have a short time to prepare for the next opponent. We definitely have a lot to improve on, that’s how we set it up in the booth.
We are not satisfied, our squad is very ambitious. In any case, we will be mentally prepared and we will give everything to overcome this obstacle (the eighth round),” concluded the Spanish coach.
