Spain coach after Italy: Maybe it was the best game I’ve ever coached. I’m extremely proud of my team
Spain produced another excellent performance, this time beating Italy 1-0. They had several great chances in the match but failed to convert them. Coach Luis de la Fuente praised his players and said it was the best match of his coaching career.
Spain produced another excellent performance, this time beating Italy 1-0. They had several great chances in the match but failed to convert them. Coach Luis de la Fuente praised his players and said it was the best match of his coaching career.
After a big win against Croatia, Spain also managed to beat Italy and is certain to qualify from the group. In addition, coach Luis de la Fuente’s team has not scored a goal so far in the tournament, adding to their 3-0 win with a 1-0 win.
The Spaniards literally crushed the Italians and it is surprising that the difference is so small. The Italian footballers failed to create shooting opportunities and it was mostly their opponents who were playing and not converting their chances.
“Maybe it was the best game I have ever coached. We played against an excellent world-class team. We controlled the game and the only minus was that we didn’t convert more chances!” the Spain coach told UEFA.
“I am proud of the players’ endless ambition and work ethic. I think what stands out the most about them is that they can play in different moments of this difficult game,” he added.
Spain is now a leading candidate to win the trophy. Before the tournament, it was England, but they play unwatchable football, unlike the Spaniards who entertain the fans with their football.
“We knew when to press, when to play vertically and when to control the ball. I think we were great defensively. The team was so good that I am extremely proud of them,” he finished.
In their last match, Spain will take on Albania, who still have a chance to qualify but need a win over the Spaniards to do so. The end of the group stage will therefore be interesting.
