Southampton closed a decent March season with a home loss to Brentford in the week. They missed a golden opportunity to get out of the relegation zone and continue to finish last. They are two points behind 17th place.
Tottenham are not in an ideal position either, winning only three of their last eight games, yet they are still fourth and hold the position guaranteeing the Champions League. It has a four-point lead over fifth-placed Newcastle, but the Magpies have played two fewer rounds.
Southampton’s key figures
Saints rely on captain James Ward-Prowse, the English midfielder has scored eight times and assisted three times. New coach Ruben Selles has improved the defence, with stopper Armel Bella-Kotchap and right back Kyle Walker Peters back in form.
Tottenham’s key figures
Spurs rely on Harry Kane, the England international has scored 22 goals and assisted four times. Centre midfielder Pierre Emile Hojbjerg has been unusually productive this season, with five assists to go alongside his five shots.
What to expect from the match and what to bet on?
Southampton have been plagued by attack since the start of the season. Che Adams hasn’t been as productive as last year, winter signing from Belgian Genk Paul Onuachu hasn’t caught on yet and Saints have the worst offense in the league with 20 shots.
Tottenham, on the other hand, are going by the motto “if I score a lot of goals, I can get a few”. Thanks mainly to Kane, they have the third best attack in the league with 49 shots after Arsenal and Manchester City, Spurs have scored seven goals in the last four rounds.
Considering the fact that Southampton are the worst of the league at home, the poor form of the attack and also considering the Harry Kane factor, I think Tottenham will win and Saint will therefore stay in last place despite the national break.
