During the spring, then also in the summer, there were growing voices about the possible departure of Tomáš Souček from West Ham, who still has not signed a new contract with him. But speculation has been averted, with the Czech midfielder signed at the London Stadium until 2027.

It has been a long time since Tomas Soucek outgrew the Czech league. He was clearly the best player in the country in a Slavia jersey, he took the Sešiovans to the quarter-finals of the Europa League, where he scored against Chelsea, and he also scored in the Champions League group stage against Dortmund.

Just a few months after that, the big transfer finally came. The midfielder was scouted by West Ham, who were just fighting relegation in the Premier League. The lanky midfielder immediately fit into the starting line-up, with great performances and also three goals he helped West Ham to stay up.

But the next season was outstanding. Soucek broke the Czech record, became the first Czech to score 10 goals in a single Premier League season and helped pull the Hammers into Europe.

He put in a decent performance the following season too, contributing five goals to West Ham’s next cup finish. But he had almost no time off over the summer, the season was tough and it took its toll on Soucek.

The captain of the Czech national team fell out of form and fans even called for him to be benched. Moreover, in the spring, speculations started to emerge that he might leave the club.

But that is now irrelevant. According to journalist Roshan Thomas of The Athletic, Soucek has signed a new four-year contract at West Ham until 2027. The current one would expire next summer.

In the first leg against Bournemouth, it was the old Soucek again. In the 17th minute he only hit the bar, but in the 51st minute he was already in the stats when he assisted Jarred Bowen’s leading goal. West Ham take on Chelsea on Saturday.
