Sor should be back to 100% next week. Trpišovský took his injury on himself, coaches put unnecessary pressure on him
Yira Sor is the cup demon of Slavia. He scored six goals and assisted three more in the Conference League last spring and scored twice in the opening round against St. Joseph’s. But since then he’s been nursing an injury, while Slavia could sorely use his speed. How does it look with him?
Yira Sor is the cup demon of Slavia. He scored six goals and assisted three more in the Conference League last spring and scored twice in the opening round against St. Joseph’s. But since then he’s been nursing an injury, while Slavia could sorely use his speed. How does it look with him?
When Sor came to Slavia from Baník in the winter, probably nobody could have imagined such a quick and immediate acclimatization. The Nigerian speedster shot through the procedures over Fenerbahce and LASK Linz, literally destroying open defences of opponents with his speed.
Slavia wanted to use this treasure in the prelims, but Sor only started the first match against St. Joseph’s, scored two goals and hasn’t been seen on the pitch since.
“Matches in Europe are played in a completely different way, it’s more open and there is less contact. The game is more fluid. We missed him a lot in qualifying, it was very visible. It’s thestyle of a striker,” regretted his absence at the press conference before Sivaspor, coach Jindřich Trpišovský.
It was all down to one innocent shot in training, during which Sor pulled his groin. “His injury is in the deep groin, where he had problems after one shot,” Trpišovský explained. He had to take a break, but it was shorter than necessary.
The coaches wanted him fit for the rematch with Panathinaikos, where they knew he would be very useful. But they insisted on Sor so much that the speedster aggravated his injury.
“We don’t want to get into a situation like at Panathinaikos, where we pushed him, then two training sessions set him back three weeks. His absence is also a bit to blame because we pushed him to be available for the rematch. It’s a thing we want to avoid by having a national break,” admits the Slavia coach the mistake.
However, gradually Sor should be on the mend, and although he won’t be at Sivasspor yet, next week could be a different story.
“According to all indications, there is a big chance that he will be 100 percent involved next week. He’s made a big improvement, he’s running as well. We are just waiting to see if he can go into 100% sprints and go into the ball load. If all goes well, he should be involved on Tuesday or Wednesday. There is a possibility that he will be involved in Thursday’s game,” said Trpišovský.
“We want to include him only when we are 100% sure that the groin will hold up. If there’s any doubt, we’ll wait for him to get fit during the national break and use him to the full in the rest of the group,” he added, adding that he won’t push Sor this time.
In a group where a lot of open football is played, Sor could be very valid. That’s why Trpišovský is waiting for his recovery like a mercy.
