Someone should remind Mbappe that Messi already had 4 Ballon d’Ors at 23, Rooney rages
Few believed that Kylian Mbappé would stay at PSG for another season. However, the management of the Parisian club eventually did, and instead of benefiting from it now, it’s coming back to haunt them in a bad way. Then, Wayne Rooney also returned for the last game against Montpellier and he didn’t argue with the French striker.

Ego is a dangerous thing! A professional athlete needs it, of course, when he has to believe in his own abilities, which he has to prove week after week in big stadiums, where tens of thousands of fans often create an electrifying atmosphere that would make anyone’s knees buckle.
But if the ego outgrows the athlete himself, there’s a problem. And that is exactly what Mbappé, who did something unprecedented in his last league game, seems to be struggling with.
PSG’s owners wanted to keep the French striker at all costs and, according to French media, President Emmanuel Macron, who also reportedly had a big influence on his retention, weighed in.
However, with all these actions, Mbappe’s ego grew sky-high, which was on full display in the match against Montpellier, where the 23-year-old striker had multiple moments during which he was substituted.
Rooney, who traditionally doesn’t mince his words, also had his say on the whole situation. “I have never seen a bigger ego in my life. Someone should tell Mbappe that when Messi was 23 years old, he already held four Ballon d’Ors in his hands,” the former England striker said in an interview with Depar Sports.
It is certainly worth adding here that the Argentine magician won his 4th Ballon d’Or in 2012, when he was already 25 years old.
Even so, Mbappé certainly won’t make it, and given that he stayed at PSG, not much of his success in this regard can be expected when he will have huge competition in his “peers” Erling Haaland (Manchester City) or Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid), who will be much more appreciated for the higher difficulty of their leagues.
This will make it even harder for them to win The Best FIFA award, where the players themselves vote, for example. And when they see these shots, they won’t be inclined to give him their vote, much like they wouldn’t give Rooney theirs.
It will therefore be very interesting to see how the people at PSG manage to tame Mbappé’s ego, which they themselves have driven to the heavens by their behaviour and cajoling.
