Al Ahly, the favourite to win the Egyptian title, travels to Smouha on Wednesday. The two teams are separated by just two places, but the visitors have three games to play and if they can do it, they will return to the top of the table. What to expect from the match?
Smouha drew 3-3 in their first match after the June break, with four penalties being kicked in the match and themselves taking a point with the one in the 98th minute. She is fifth in the table, three points behind fourth-placed Future.
Al Ahly won at home on Wednesday with a goal from a set-piece and are in touch with the front of the competition. From third place, it is four points behind leaders Zamalek but has four games to play.
National striker Marwan Hamdi is leading the home side, having scored ten times and assisted five more goals. He is helped a lot by Abdelkabir El Ouadi, the Moroccan international has six goals and eight assists.
Tunisian left back Ali Maâloul has been unusually productive in the away team, scoring six times and assisting three times in the league. Striker Mohamed Sherif holds a 6+2 record, scoring another six goals in the African Champions League.
Smouha has adopted the tactic of “the best defence is attack”, scoring at least two goals in four of the last five games and conceding at least two goals three times on the other side.
Al Ahly’s defence is more solid and they have scored ten goals in the last four rounds.
Taking into account the visitors’ awesome shooting form and the quality of Al Ahly’s squad with several national team players in the line-up, I think the favourite will win and score at least two goals.
