The group stage of the World Cup has moved into its second half and Slovakia has played its fourth match. This time, too, it was victorious, winning the derby with Poland 4:0. The win currently means second place in Group B.

After wins against Kazakhstan and the USA, Slovakia took on Poland, who are the main candidates for relegation to the lower division. The Poles won a point against Latvia in the first match, but then fell to Sweden and France.

Czech goalkeeper Tomáš Fučík, who plays in the local hockey league, got a chance in the Polish goal this time. But at 02:03 he was already pulling the puck out of his net when he was fouled by Lukáš Cingel.

Koch found Tatar, who passed the ball to Cingel and the Slovakian forward had no problem finishing into the empty net. Even better was ten minutes later when Slovakia’s lead was increased.

Nemec found a free Tatar and he put the puck under the crossbar. Fucik was thus outplayed for the second time. At the end of the first period, the Poles were shorthanded twice, but kept the score 0:2 from their point of view.

Not much happened in the second period, we didn’t see a goal, only two exclusions of Regenda and one of Pasiut. Spectators in the arena couldn’t enjoy the hockey too much, the chances didn’t increase in the third period either.

In the 12th minute Fucik got injured and was replaced by David Zabolotny, who didn’t get a clean sheet. Six minutes later, Cehlárik beat him and 12 seconds after that Cingel finished for 4:0.

With this win, Slovakia is in second place, one point behind Sweden, who have one game in hand. Poland is in last place, two points behind Kazakhstan with one more game to play.
