Slovácko says goodbye to the Europa League, Slavia draws and advances to the play-offs
Slovácko was unable to overcome the Turkish team’s lead in the rematch against Fenerbahce and after a 1-1 draw they are out of the Europa League. Slavia is happier, even though they had a lot of hope for promotion. After the 1:1 draw, they will, like Slovácko, play in the ECL play-offs.
Slovácko was unable to overcome the Turkish team’s lead in the rematch against Fenerbahce and after a 1-1 draw, they are out of the Europa League. Slavia is happier, even though they had a lot of hope for promotion. After the 1:1 draw, they will, like Slovácko, play in the ECL play-offs.
Slovácko was the first of the Czech teams to go, having to make up for a three-goal deficit from the opening game, which seemed impossible. And it was.
Martin Svedik’s team was no better than the Turkish one, which took the lead in the 56th minute. Two minutes later, however, Ondřej Šašinka managed to equalise.
But it was certain that the promotion would not take place in Uherské Hradiště. The match ended amicably 1:1 and Slovácko at least partially contributed to the national coefficient. But they don’t have to be sad, they will still have a chance for the group stage in the European Conference League.
Half an hour later the match started for Slavia, who won 2:0 at home. In the rematch, it was not only the quality performance of the Greeks that was feared, but also the fans or the turf.
All the fears came true, the turf was very waterlogged and the fans were persistently shining lasers in the eyes of the Slavia players, apart from the positive support. Perhaps this was enough to unsettle them that they could have lost their lead after half time.
However, thanks to an excellent performance by Aleš Mandous, the score was 0:0 at half-time. But after less than an hour of play, it too fell. Andraž Šporar scored after a Juankar centre.
However, the Greeks failed to add another goal and Slavia equalized from Václav Jurečka’s kick. The Sešiovans can look forward to the play-offs, in which they will challenge Polish Raków.
