Important news for Prague Slavia. Just a week after Fenerbahce was drawn in the Conference League, the Turkish team lost its head coach. Portuguese coach Vítor Pereira is leaving the team.
As Zdeněk Šenkeřík confirmed in a recent interview with Ruik, coach Pereira had a very difficult time at Fenerbahce. Both with the fans and the management.
Indeed, he was sacked after a bad season at Fenerbahce, and only returned to the team in the summer after five years.
“Our A team coach, Vitor Pereira, and I agreed to terminate his contract and we parted ways. We would like to thank him for his efforts and work so far and wish him well in his future career,” Fenerbahce said on its Twitter account.
The Istanbul outfit has not fared well this season. It is only fifth in the league table and is already 14 points behind first-placed Trabzonspor. Moreover, Fenerbahce was relegated from the Europa League to the Conference League, finishing third behind Eintracht Frankfurt and Olympiakos Pyreus.
Pereira’s neck was broken in the weekend draw with Besiktas. Fenerbahce went ahead in the 14th minute thanks to Özil, who scored from the penalty spot. Josef equalized in the 25th minute, but Berisha sent Fenerbahce back in front in the 30th minute. However, Josef scored his second goal in the 59th minute and the match ended 2-2.
There was a lot of clinging to the derby lead and it was Pereira’s last chance to save their necks. He failed to do so and parted ways with the team after six months.
