Slavia crushed Gibraltar’s St. Joseph’s 4:0 in the first Conference League match and enter the home rematch in a very comfortable position. Jindřich Trpišovský will probably rotate the whole squad and several substitutes will get a chance.
The Sešiovans entered the season in the best way they could. Although the match at the Gibraltar Arena could not be underestimated, anything other than a big win would be disappointing and possibly a disgrace.
The quality of the Slavia team is several levels away from the Gibraltar midget and it was evident right from the start. First, in the whitewash, Traoré fed Sora, who cleared the ball into the net. Eleven minutes later we saw a Nigerian collaboration when Usor set the ball up for Soro, who added his second goal of the game.
After that, the frustrated home side went to ten and the game was almost decided. Just before half time, Ewerton increased the score to 3:0. In the second half the Slavs had one chance after another, Tiéhi failed twice in good positions, Lingr slipped, Fila or Douděra were not accurate.
However, it was Lingr who added the fourth goal in the 56th minute when he headed a deflected shot into the net. The Seškis had 33 shots in the match, 18 of them on goal. St. Joseph’s didn’t get a shot on Mandouse.
And what to expect from the rematch? Slavia will surely rotate the line-up, as coach Trpišovský also hinted. With the league starting on Sunday, there is no point in putting key players at risk of injury as the Gibraltar team played very sharply.
But even that doesn’t mean Slavia will let up at home. The players off the bench will be eager to show off and fight for the starting lineup, so the Susians cannot be expected to take their foot off the gas.
And one such player is Ondrej Lingr. He started last season as a joker and scored a lot of important goals, gradually working his way into the starting lineup and among the key players of Slavia.
But he started the new season on the bench again, but there was no offensive gesture, on the contrary, Lingr showed his hunger for goals in the second half and was the first to wait for a deflected shot, which he knocked into the net. That’s why I think he could be the one to score again in the rematch.
