Slavia Prague vs. Sherif Tiraspol: Preview and betting tips

Big payback. This is how Slavia can take the duel with Sherif Tiraspol. The two teams meet again after 14 years, this time in the Europa League group stage. What to bet on?

Sherif Tiraspol are responsible for one of the blackest days in the history of Slavia. In 2009, in the Champions League preliminary round, after the first goalless draw at home in the return leg, the Susians were leading 1:0 and could have easily added 5 more goals, but the Moldovans equalised in the last minute of the setup at 1:1.

Sešívani were thus knocked out of the Champions League and what is worse, the management was already counting on the income from the promotion, so the spiral of debts began, which almost ended in the club’s demise.

When you say “Sherif Tiraspol”, it makes every Slavic player smile. Now, after 14 years, Susians have a chance to make amends.

They have made the best possible start in the Europa League. They won 2:0 against Servette of Geneva and gained three valuable points. Now, however, they have to do it again at home against Tiraspol.

In the first game against AS Roma, Sheriff was not as badly beaten as expected. The Italians waited until the last minute of the first half to score, but the home side equalised after the change of sides. Romelu Lukaku had to score in the 65th minute to win 2-1.

The hegemon of recent years in Moldova is currently not so sovereign. They are only in second place behind first-placed Milsami, who they lost to at the end of August. But Sherif has been ruling Moldovan football continuously since 2001.

This weekend, however, Sheriff blasted Balti 4-0. Slavia have a problem scoring goals. On Sunday, for the first time in the season, they didn’t score a goal and only drew in Teplice. After 10 rounds it is exactly half of the goals (17) it scored last year (34).

But even though the Sevilla team is not scoring in the league, it is a different story in the Europa League. Teams want to play more openly, they don’t come against Slavia just to defend, so Susians have more space for breakaway situations.

Thus, three goals were scored at home in Eden against Dnipro, two against Zorya, three in the rematch with Zorya and two in Košice against Dnipro and in Geneva. That’s why I think that three goals could be scored this time as well.
