They were supposed to dominate the whole group, but instead, Slavia will fight until the last round to reach the knockout stage of the Conference Europa League. And even two wins may not be enough…
At first glance, the situation seems clear. If Slavia wins on the ground of Kosovo’s Ballkani, followed by a home win against Sivaspor, they must advance with ten points. But it’s not quite like that.
In case of two wins, Slavia will have ten points. However, Cluj and Sivasspor can also finish on ten points if the Turkish side beats Cluj at home in two weeks and the Romanian champion beats Ballkani at home in the last round.
The three teams would therefore meet on ten points and the mini-table would be decided. This means that the matches against Ballkani would not count. At that point, Cluj would be on six points, Sivasspor on seven and Slavia on just four.
So the Reds and Whites must hope for a Kluge defeat in Sivas in the next round. If Sivasspor win at home, it will already be difficult. Ballkani would then have to get at least a draw in Cluj. Football-wise, they probably should, but Cluj is experienced enough to keep such a match in check.
So if there is a way, it is definitely through the Sivas game. Cluj should be in a good frame of mind after two earned triumphs over Slavia, and Sivasspor qualitatively look to be on a lower level.
