“Hello Milan,” wrote the representatives of Slavia on the social network X. The message was also noticed by the prestigious Italian daily Corriere dello Sport. The first ever clash between Slavia Prague and AC Milan has just started.
The best year for the Czech Republic in the European Cups continues. Plzeň will face Servette Geneva in the Conference League Eight finals, Sparta will face the famous Liverpool in the same stage of the Europa League and Slavie will face the equally famous AC Milan. What to add?
Although Jindřich Trpišovský’s charges are the clear outsiders in the clash with the Italian giant, the seven-time Champions League winner has been making some rather humble statements ahead of the duel.
Slavia must not be underestimated, says AC Milan legend
“We must not underestimate Slavia Prague. They faced AS Roma in the regular group and put in a great performance. We must have respect for all opponents on the international stage,” Franco Baresi, former AC Milan captain and now honorary vice-president of the club, told Corriere dello Sport.
Slavia are certainly not without a chance, but the Rossoneri’s strength is incredible. In goal is French international Mike Maignan. The defence is secured by names like Simon Kjaer or Theo Hernández, the idea of the game is given by Yacine Adli or Ruben Loftus-Cheek and up front there is the unstoppable Rafael Leao or the experienced Olivier Giroud.
“We need more intensity and attention. The team needs to be more compact. We are good offensively but we score too much. We need more attention overall,” Baresi is nevertheless not entirely happy with his successors.
AC are third in the current Serie A table, eleven points behind another Milan club, Inter. The latter also has a game to play. Will Stefano Pioli’s charges get a taste of Slavia?
The historic first clash between Slavia and AC Milan will take place next Thursday in northern Italy.
