Slavia won the fourth match of the group stage of the European Conference League and after a 1:0 win they are in the second place. The three points are mainly thanks to the stopper duo, who saved at least three scoring chances.
At the start of the season, it was stoppers number four and five. Taras Kacharaba and Aiham Ousou were supposed to cover the backs of Ondrej Kudel and Davids Hovorka and Zim. This means playing matches against teams from the second half of the table in “English weeks”.
However, Hovorka is injured for a long time, Kúdela was unlucky against Karviná and Zima left to try a foreign engagement in Turin. With alternatives in the form of Tomáš Holeš and Ladislav Takács also injured, all eyes were on the Swedish-Ukrainian duo.
It wasn’t good at first. The language barrier and inexperience with big games was evident, plus neither of the defenders has been with the team for even a year and last but not least they don’t have the kicking technique that their teammates are used to from Kudela.
In the last three games, Ousou and Kacharaba have been performing better. A clean sheet against Olomouc gave them a confidence boost, and just three days later they didn’t let the in-form Jean David Beauguel get into anything.
And they rode the positive wave in Thursday’s game as well. They had plenty of work to do and it was thanks to them that most of the chances ended up being just a sniff of a chance.
The Swedish U21 international blocked a double chance for the opponents in the first half, first knocking down a centre flying into the box, then lying down to a fierce shot. After the change of sides, he stopped one break and shone in the air.
The masked defender shone especially in the second half, in the first he helped the team most with a series of header duels. At the end of the game, he won a key duel at the line and confirmed that if anyone is currently in top form, it is him.
