The Slavs, in a rather combined line-up, did not hesitate and confirmed their role as favourites against LASK Linz. The Sešivans won convincingly 4:1 and took a step towards promotion to the top eight teams of the European Conference League. The African footballers and the great organisation of the game played a big part in the win.

The first half was a one man show by Nigerian speedster Yira Sora. His breathtaking agility and speed now seems more than adequate for the price of 30 million crowns. Meanwhile, there was talk before the spring season started about how Sor would need at least half a season to adapt.

But in Slavia there is simply a magical environment where players adapt very quickly. Remember the meteoric rise of Abdallah Sima, Sor started his Slavic mission in a similar style.

It is his form that may be the X factor that can help the Susians break the next big European milestone.

All five goals were scored by African footballers wearing the Slavia jersey. The celebrated Sor scored the first two goals, Peter Olayinka made a huge miss in the 67th minute and notched an unwanted assist on Husein Balic’s goal.

Apart from this failure, the Nigerian international gave an otherwise very above-standard performance. He finally made up for his mistake in the 83rd minute with a goal in the Linz net. Two minutes later, Ibrahim Traoré made the scoring stop.

Public reaction

The Czech football public welcomes Slavia’s unambiguous victory with all ten cheers and praise wherever possible. It must be noted that it is well deserved. Slavia’s management team went for an untested line-up, but on the pitch it went more than well.

While Sparta faces criticism about the width of the squad, Slavie came to the match with LASK with a rather patched line-up, but this team is not looking for any excuses and is systematically playing the same football, in which it can effectively fit the strengths of each individuality, which pays off.
